you think elections don't matter?

why elections matter: addison mitchell mcconnell (err-defense industry)
has doubled down on his "one-term" comments. addison has the audacity to
want the president to fail, which means that he wants the country to fail
as well. guess who gets hurt addison when the country fails? it
certainly isn't your constituents in the defdep. it certainly isn't the
constituents of rand paul: libertarian opt-famologist, which are country
clubbers and multinational small business. no the ones who get hurt are
the ones who live in poor states. like the state that voted you and the
other no nuttin into office. like KENTUCKY.

another sign the ignorant, damn stupid electorate don't get it that the
republicans are actively wanting the country to FAIL, not only to get that
muslin fascist socialist terrorist liberal, you know, "that one" out of
the white house, but to see the takeover and utter ownership of our
country to the multinational immoral small businesses, most of which not
based in this country. thank you citizens united. thank you KRATS
(kennedy, roberts, alito, thomas, scalia) for that.

i'm a christian except when i'm not

follow the logic:
right wing idiot doesn't want healthcare for all because she doesn't want to pay for anyone else. i ask if christ doesn't advocate for caring for the sick and healthcare for all isn't the most christian thing they could do. i get back in response:

"He did call for us as christians to take care of those in need, not necessarily those in greed and He expected all of us to make an honest effort to help ourselves, something I would venture to say the majority of those without healthcare 4 years or longer have not done and probably never will, especially if things are continually given to them."

here we pause for a second. can anyone honestly say that those who are going without healthcare for more than a year are doing so by choice? name me one person who is going without healthcare for 4 years or longer because they wanted to. also, about those in greed, is that why you also support health insurance companies raising rates because they want to? and why not force these ceos to give up their salaries. can't say they really deserve them because none of these health insurance companies seem to be looking out for the common people.

but i forgot. it ruins the image of the good upstanding christian who looks out for his brother. my mistake.

"Also it is as you said Christ called the church to take care of those in need, I don t recall anything He said about the government taking from some to give to others under any circumstances, even for socialized healthcare. We are to help each other and give to charity with a cheerful heart, which the majority of christians do in many forms, and that is not easy when charity is forced on us all by the government. Truly depend on the One True and Living GOD and HE will provide all your needs!"

so evil christian wants je-haysus in the government but doesn't want the government to do anything that je-haysus advocated. can someone tell me what fuck these people actually want? they want abortions abolished to save the fetususususes but don't give a shit about the mother or the newborn. they want the 10 commandments posted on every government building, but don't seem to have any problems violating commandments 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10. jesus says give to the poor, but the government can't provide for health coverage, or housing, or any basic need of those in our society in need. "GAWD SAYS TO TAKE CARE OF THE NEEDY BUT I AIN'T GONNA DO IT BECAUSE THE NEEDY ARE LAYZEE AND NO GOOD AND THAYS PROBABLY MUSLIN FUNDAMENTALIST TERAISTS SO SCREW ALL YALL!!!!!!"

you sunday christians (and i'm using that as an epithet. if i could make it any dirtier i would) sicken and disgust me and anyone who calls themselves a moral human being.

when i tell people i'm a better christian than most and i am a professed atheist, well, i mean it. satanism is more moral than these christians.

iphone 4 to t-mobile is not as outrageous as you may think

it would be a good thing.

no, you read that right. the iphone 4 to magenta would be a good thing.

i know i posted to this blog about how much i really like the vibrant i
got from t-mobile a week ago today, but understand this:
the iphone is a big name to have. if t-mobile got this device it would
easily surpass sprint as the number 3 domestic carrier. with its cheaper
rate plans (not to mention a truly unlimited data plan) and faster
network, it could supplant at&t for number 2, which would be very ironic
to say the least. the iphone to t-mo makes more sense than it going to
verizon or sprint. i said earlier that both use the cdma frequency to
make calls. well, a chip has been developed that will be compatible with
both gsm and cdma technologies. but there's one catch- apple would have
to redesign the iphone to accomodate it (and with the death grip
associated with a touch on one spot on the casing a redesign may not be
such a bad thing). if it goes to t-mobile, all apple has to do is add in
t-mo's 3g frequency to its 3g radio chipset. which move is more cost
effective?

there are more than a million iphones on t-mobile's network right now.
all of them capped at edge data speed. there are enough iphones that
t-mobile has an entire tech support section devoted to it. and 3g data
speeds being slower is not a concern. with the release of the vibrant and
the release of the htc hd2 months ago, two data sucking devices, the
network hasn't come down yet. it's being built out even more. it could
handle the iphone, vibrant and hd2 on its network. at the same time even.

handset diversity is key to growing out the business and if t-mobile could
snag the iphone once its exclusivity with deathstar ends it would bring in
a whole bunch of new people; people who want iphones but don't want to
deal with at&t incompetance or people who want to jump in the smartphone
market with a recognizable name.

that being said, i really don't know if i would get one or not since i
have the vibrant. i really like the openness of the android market
although the apps leave a lot to be desired. its like a jailbroken iphone
4 out of the box, but the only apps available to you are from cydia.
there are some good cydia apps but the ones from the apple app store are
better. but as long as google/android don't remove the adult apps ex post
facto like apple did, i may stick with this for a while.

why t-mobile is the best cell provider in the country

when i first got a cell phone, i got it through cingular's gophone. and i
got it strictly for work purposes. i don't talk much. not in person, not
on a phone. i had been happy with what i had until i went researching for
providers after i had been thinking of getting an iphone. it wasn't going
to be at&t, they were charging $30 data plans on top of voice plans, voice
minutes i was never going to use. so i look at what t-mobile had to
offer. they had a flat data rate plan. cool, i'll go with that. but
doing a little more digging, i find that in their prepaid plans, they
offered rates as low as $.10 a minute. i was happy with cingular/at&t
prepaid rate i was using of $.25 a minute, but i would be crazy to pass up
$.10. when i went to the at&t store to get my account number so t-mo
could port over the number i had for years with at&t, the reason i told
him i was going to t-mobile was at&t didn't offer $.10 a minute prepaid
plans. i would stay with at&t if they did that. they aren't, but i'm
just sayin.

so for the last year i had both of the phones on t-mobile service, one
prepaid, one on a data plan. going in i knew that the fastest the iphone
would go would be edge speeds. i didn't care, because for listening to
streaming radio and surfing the web at work when the wifi went down, it
was good enough. then thursday i bought the new samsung vibrant. oh my
god. i would honestly say this phone is t-mo's answer to the iphone line,
especially in light of the problems the iphone 4 has with reception and
the fact that at&t's 3g network is crap. plus at&t ended officially
unlimited data plans. so much for that if you use an iphone. i would try
to find as many wifi hotspots as possible because that thing is a data
hog, especially for the apps that work best with the 3g data lines. the
samsung is fast. blazing fast. i haven't seen such downloading speeds
since i was using the dorm internet network connection in college. the 3g
is faster than the dsl we have at home. and on the 21st it is supposed to
get faster.

but that's not all. that same thursday i had a problem with service. i
was not able to use the 3g connection with the vibrant. and i could not
change my plan online to get it to work. so i call up t-mo customer
service on my prepaid phone. bad idea, i kept getting rerouted to the
prepaid tech support, and even then i couldn't talk with a real person.
so i called using the vibrant itself. when i got with a customer support
person, the girl/young lady on the other end could not have been any
nicer. she got me straightened out. she switched my plan to the android
internet plan (didn't know there was such a thing) which was the same
price as before and threw in unlimited texts for nothing. i had gotten a
300 text plan when i quickly realized that people send me and i send
others more than 25 texts a month. i got charged $.25 a text either way.
it was more economical to get the 300 text plan even though i didn't come
close to 300 texts. she saw that and upgraded me to unlimited. the only
thing she didn't change was the voice option which was $.45 a minute.
when you have a cheap prepaid plan, you don't need a voice plan on that
device. so with a discount i get for working at mcdonald's, i have an
unlimited data plan and an unlimited text plan for the same price i had
been paying on an annual contract- $45 a month. it is much cheaper than
the unlimited talk-text-data plan t-mo offers and it is the perfect plan
for me, something at&t should have been offering people from the start.

verizon is expensive with a technology using a dying standard in cdma.
sprint is hemorraging customers using a dying standard in cdma. at&t has
a poor network with a popular phone and expensive plans. and t-mobile has
cheap plans and before thursday had crappy phone selection. the vibrant
will do some things. it may not bring in as many customers as the others,
but it will hold up to the iphone, especially when you have unlimited data
usage on it.

viva t-mobile

on lebron james, dan gilbert and espn

shame on all 3.

1. on lebron for telling the world he was leaving for miami while still
IN CLEVELAND. classy lebron. way to build up the cav fans hopes and then
shatter them like glass. that was the most stupid thing i have seen in a
while. if it were me, regardless if i were staying or leaving, i would
not have made that decision IN CLEVELAND. do it in your old high school
gym. or do it in a major city without an nba team. but not IN
CLEVELAND. i just see this as lebron cementing his reputation. no not as
a superstar, but as a self-centered overhyped very good basketball player
who cares more about promoting himself and getting his name out there than
winning. if he cared about winning he would have gone to chicago. as a
bulls fan i am glad he is not going to make his home in the united
center. as it stands now, he's on a team with a lot of talent, but i'm
not sure how much of a "team" it is or will be. and speaking of "team"...

2. on dan gilbert. i don't say that because of the screed he wrote in
the plain-dealer after james jumped ship. i say that because of the
screed he wrote after he enabled james for 7 years. i'd be hella pissed
too after i did everything i could to coddle the league's most marketable
loser and came away with nothing. gilbert didn't have the balls to tell
james no. his general manager didn't have the balls to tell james no.
his coach(es) certainly didn't have the balls to tell james no, but then
again none of the 30 nba coaches, with the slight exception of phil
jackson, have the balls to tell any players no. instead of building an
actual team to complement james gilbert through his gms threw players on
this team with no rhyme or reason. the offense was pretty simple- give
the ball to lebron and get out of the way. the players he was surrounded
with were slightly better than average and only because they were with
lebron were they perceived as being better than they were. i can't shoot
for the life of me. if i were on the cavs for the last 7 years i would
have been a valuable role player to have on their team. why? because i'm
a teammate of lebron james. and lebron james is king. he's god. he's
the akron hammer. he must be that damn good because espn said so. and
speaking of espn...

3. on espn for that masturbatory celebration of all things lebron james.
i didn't watch it. but i saw clips of it on other shows. in a few words,
that was horrible. here was a supposed news organization making a story
that could have been covered in 15 minutes last for 5-6 hours, not
including the 1 hour special itself. keeping secret from your own
reporters that you had even a special planned is a nice move. so is
finding out where hoopstar christ is going 30 minutes in the interview
when it was promised the announcement would come within 15 minutes of the
start of the show.

really, everyone looks sleazy in this deal all around, hoopstar christ
especially. if anyone wants to know why i haven't consciously voluntarily
watched any nba game in 13 years, look at this incedent. i'm a hockey
fan. i can guarantee you that sid crosby or alex ovetchkin should either
of them hit the free agent market would ever do something like this,
mainly because publicity stunts like this embarrass all parties involved.
the players especially. and both of those players respect the nhl and
hockey too much to ever do something like that.

good luck (n)ever winning a championship in miami, provided they have
enough basketballs to go around.

craigslist

you know i wonder how many real people actually use the for sale section
of craigslist. i tried selling my old laptop on craigslist a few years
back, and every one of the respondants i got were from outside the
country. despite me saying in my description twice (i tried twice) that i
would only deal with people in the louisville area and all transactions
would be face-to-face only. and then now as i am attempting to buy an
iphone 3gs, under the local louisville craigslist section i see people
trying to sell iphones with area codes that say florida but are actually
located in california. AND THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT AMERICAN. i'm not
bagging on immigrants. i like them more than i like most americans. but
when i called these people, obviously i could tell there were some major
shenanigans going on. there are also images embedded in ads that are
advertising selling the iphone on websites that look like the spam
erectile dysfunction/vicodin/vioxx. the websites look as though they were
made on geocities. $210 for an iphone 3gs? sure i'll take it, as long as
i'm not sending you any money first.

it's too bad there aren't any moderators in the for sale sections of
craigslist, because i'll bet that 3/4 of all the ads reporting to be local
would get axed in a heartbeat. craigslist wants to clean up their image.
they can go a whole lot further by getting rid of all the crap ads in the
for sale section.

mcdonald's logic confuses me

ok, we started a new toy last week while i was on vacation for the new
avatar the last airbender movie. i just looked at the toy list.

there are 12 toys, 8 for boys 4 for "girls". and i put "girls" in quotes
because i honestly could make an argument that the 4 girls toys could
easily pass off as boy toys. the girl toys are an asian style fold fan
(okay, i see that one), a small stuffed flying bat creature (we have given
away stuffed dogs and cats as toys for both), a ribbon with a handle on
the end so it flaps around when you run (eh, 50/50) and the girl lead in
avatar (we have also given away female toys to both). so not only am i
confused by why boys have twice as many toys as girls, i am confused by
the selection FOR girls because we could easily pass them off as boy toys
as long as no one asks specifically girl or boy happy meal. they didn't
even divide the happy meal display so you could see what is a girl toy and
what is a boy toy.

but like i always say, i dunno i just work here.

i'm sick and tired of companies slobbering over firefox

actually, i wouldn't say slobbering. rather deep fellating.

i had purchased a set of downloadable mp3 audiobooks from
graphicaudio.net. and for the record, they do excellent work. their
tagline is "a movie in your mind". they produce full cast audiobooks with
high quality sound effects. i like them so much that i have aquired by
various means all of or most of their rouge angel, deathlands, doomsday
warrior, destroyer, earthblood, and my favorite the survivalist along with
most other titles. some time ago, maybe a year or two, graphic audio
switched the method of payment for their downloads. before you could
download a zip file of .wma files, .mp3 files or cds. however with the
phasing out of drm protection, the .wma files were on the way out which
disappointed me greatly. while i did not love the format, it made
downloading easier. the .wma files only played after downloading the zip
which was not placed on a protected server. the .mp3 files however are
zipped on a protected server. meaning so many download attempts, and
timed links that will expire.

i bought that set of books last night and had opera 10.60 beta download
those files. then i went to bed. i get up and i find that not only were
they not completed (at last check before going to bed, it should have been
2 hours. i checked maybe 4 hours later) but any attempts to resume the
download reset the file all the way to zero or did not progress any
further. after 3 attempts unsuccessfully, i go back to the download page
to try the links in a download manager where i find that i had reached the
maximum number of downloads. complete bullshit. their system has been
set up to detect download ATTEMPTS, but not download COMPLETIONS. i don't
think it would be that hard to detect if a server could detect a completed
download. i e-mailed them letting them know that my downloads had never
finished, but slowly petered out to nothing and i needed the links again.
the downloads failing is a noted opera issue. some downloads will stop
downloading in opera for no reason. however the remedies that graphic
audio were typical level 1 tech talking to computer n00b type solutions:
don't use a wireless connection, download using a wired connection, don't
use download managers because they typically fail at 97% and most
sickeningly USE FIREFOX to download your files.

as soon as i saw that, i was this close to saying give me a refund and
shove firefox up your ass. firefox is not the browser you thought it is.
i have tried it and i am not and have not been impressed. for all the
great things about it using extensions, opera has built in. standard.
graphic audio is not the first company i have used that has disdain for
opera. turbo tax for example says you can use internet explorer or
firefox or safari. i think chrome was even a choice. opera? fuck no,
are you kidding? it seems to me that being standards compliant is an
afterthought and being popular means more than being better. opera has
always been standards compliant but it once was a adware browser you could
buy to get rid of the ads. browser sniffing has limited its use on the
net but any page internet explorer can render, so can opera. while this
wasn't the case, and there was no way for the tech guy to know i was not
using internet explorer unless i told him, the automatic head jerk up and
down the firefox cock just because i had a browsing problem is maddening
and disturbing all at the same time.

come on graphic audio, you can do better than that.

Obama, BP, Teabaggers and Rand Paul

I hate the canard that has spewed forth from she whose brain must have been frozen over from all that wolf hunting from the air.  She makes the accusation that because Obama is in bed with Big Oil, he has completely botched the BP oil rig oil volcano.  Kinda funny that she would be saying this since she was part of the party with that whole "Drill Baby Drill" thing.  And that she has been tied to some pretty big Big Oil company corruption in Alaska.  It is true that Obama did get money from BP/  Obama got that money from BP EMPLOYEES, NOT FROM THE CORPORATION. It is likely that there are a bunch of liberal Dems who work for BP.  Highly unlikely but probable. They could have donated you realize.  Or there were some people who simply thought Obama was more qualified than McCain

The truth of the matter is, that corporate oil and gas companies donated more than 2-1 in favor of the MCCAIN campaign, $2.4 million to $898,000. Same as when corporate Wall Street bank employees donated more for Obama and corporate Wall Street banks donated a lot more for McCain.  And since SCOTUS has decided that corporations are now people, I'm not sure how many of you could argue that more money from BP and the financial industry.  Thanks Ms Spilly-Spilly!

And those who want government out of your healthcare, please state now you are giving up your Medicare and if you are a veteran you are giving up all veterans benefits. You actions are telling me, "I got mine, SCREW YOU." That goes double for those teabagging racist bastards who are trying to say that this oil disaster is Obama's Katrina moment and wondering when the government is going to fix it. First of all, this oil well was approved during the BUSH administration (not Obama). Second, it was a lack of regulating the safety features that was the primary cause of this accident, regulating done by the government, which was under the control of the BUSH administration which had a notorious record of taking a dump on safety regulations especially if it got in the way of naked profits. A little consistency across the board if you please.  But then again, teabaggers and consistency have about as much in common as the designated hitter and an AL pitcher hitting 400 .  You know they both exist, but not found in the same place in this universe.

Now as for Rand Paul vs. Jack Conway, I have listened to what both of them have to say, and I have not heard one thing that Paul is going to do for our state. I have not heard one spark of a plan for how Paul will help the people struggling in our state. I have from Jack. Paul for being a strict constitutionalist, has problems with some parts of the constitution that have been settled for years, except for the 2nd and 10th amendments.  And besides, who would I trust to understand the Constitution of the United States, a person who attended law school of a prestigious university and was elected Attorney General of one of these United States, or an extremist conservative Libertarian ophthalmologist who is against health reform (except Medicare payments.  Huh, funny that).

After Paul has spoken out about how criticizing BP's efforts is un-American, and how in the Massey and Western Kentucky mines that "Sometimes accidents happen", don't be surprised to see a large donation or a metric crapton of ads paid for by Massey and BP in favor of Rand Paul. Because you people who want government out of your life probably don't realize, that government isn't the problem, it's the people running the government that's the problem and the ones who are most likely to be pro multinational businesses and corporations and anti little guy are the Republicans.

You people who want Paul want to see more bridge collapses and more oil rig disasters and more of the banks taking bailout money and giving them out as bonuses and providing majorly substandard equipment, food, water, and shelter to our troops due to lack of regulationsERRRRRRRRRRRbig government, fine. But you all will have those travesties of justice on your hands.  Yeah, Republicans are pro-military like Americans need off shore drilling.

jim bunning, you are an embarassment to kentucky and the senate at large

yeah i know it goes without saying but its something that most of the
country didn't really pay much attention to while he was in office. or at
least until last night.

i had just come in from work and turned on countdown and they played the
clip of senile jim bunning (r-batshit crazy) whining about no being able
to see the kentucky game because democratic senators were rightly calling
him out on his one man hold on a bill extending COBRA coverage health
benefits to unemployed people in this country.

first of all, fuck uk (that is all), and you know what jim, fuck you too.
and to the rest of the country, if this doesn't give you a bigger reason
to hate the university of kentucky, i don't know what will.

second, why the hell are you a senator jim? you are there in congress TO
SERVE THE PEOPLE. it doesn't matter if it was the 18-0 steelers vs the
18-0 cowboys in the super bowl. if there is the people's work to be done
in congress it should be done first and the personal stuff done later
after the people's work is finished.

and by the way, if you substitute jim bunning with addison mitchell
mcconnell (r-humana) and university of kentucky with university of
louisville, i would say the same, despite being an alumnus of and die hard
fan of the greatest sports institution in the big east. (and here's my
eww moment, so is chinless mitch.) my outrage is not based on who is a
school of the bastard school 80 miles down the road but that this imbecile
is whining about something as meaningless as a basketball game when people
are dieing from the lack of healthcare infuriates me.

people, you need to wake up. seriously. the republicans don't care about
you. they only care about your votes only because the supreme court has
not yet determined a way for corporations to vote yet. as soon as they
have your vote they then proceed to squat over your head and take a big
smelly runny dump on you, your friends, your loved ones and your fellow
citizens and residents of this country. there has not been in the last 40
years not one positive thing a republican congress or administration has
done for this country since nixon started the environmental protection
agency. not one. but what they have done is fool about more than half of
the voting populace into thinking that democrats hate this country and
want to destroy it. meanwhile the republicans want to shrink government
so that it can be drowned in a bathtub. they are on a pretty good pace to
do just that with several multimillion to billion dollar no bid contracts
being awarded for two wars that is quickly bankrupting the country without
providing the revenue to sustain such ventures or contracts. we know the
republicans couldn't give a shit about any of you unless you are rich,
white, or exist on paper.

the democrats on the other hand, are not much better. they talk a good
game but fail to produce.

EVERY.
SINGLE.
TIME.

while bunning was there with his filibuster on those benefits, the senate
democrats decided to let ol' jimbo filibuster. they were going to let him
do it all night. they were going to keep the chamber in session until
bunning gave up or passed out like jefferson smith. senate majority whip
dick durbin (d-il) was going to offer a motion for unanimous consent to
pass the benefits package without bunning's objections every 30 minutes.
"We're going to keep doing it until we break him." that's what one of his
aides said. bunning was even dropping profanities on the senate floor.
so what did the democrats do?

they let jim go home and sleep on it.

then the next day bunning resumed his one man filibuster. then suggested
the absence of a quorum. then the senate adjourned for the weekend. so
much for unemployed healthcare benefits.

i understand why people don't vote for republicans. i cannot understand
why people vote for these weak kneed spineless jellyfish pussy democrats
for the life of me. do us all a favor. don't donate to the dscc. or the
dccc. or the dnc. donate to the democrats who actually care about you,
not because you are their constituent, but because you happen to be in
this country native born or not.

hillary r. clinton, will you please go now?

(title apologies to theodore guisel)

the democratic primary race is over. someone please let hillary clinton know that she can't win. statistically, it's ovah. but up come people saying that obama is being elitist with comments that when government fails them, the people become bitter and turn to their guns and god. that this gas tax holiday supported by clinton (proposed byt john mccain, the REPUBLICAN) will do you no good is elitist. i hear those same arguements coming from the clinton campaign supporters rather than from the obama supporters. ever since the start of this long arduous primary season, the vibe that i have always gotten from barack obama is that he figures that he won't change the culture in washington by himself. he is asking that those who are with him ask the same of their local representation. when i hear him say "we", i literally think that he actually means "we" as in you, me, the guy down the street, everyday people.

the vibe that i get from the clinton campaign is that its her turn. she has the name association, she has the money, she has had more exposure to what life in the white house is, therefore the people should just usher her into the oval office. when i hear her say "we" i see her meaning the royal "we", meaning me. she really has had to ramp up the rhetoric to get people back to her side since the failure of clinching inevitability on super tuesday and that has really put the clamps on her.

the math is simply not in her favor.

pandering to the people for votes screams of insincerity to me, especially when its not going to do much for people. and clinton has to know that. when you are being outspent 3 to 1 saying anything and everything to garner a few votes that won't change much in the overall picture is not surprising, but to call out obama for making fun of this i think is just sour grapes on clinton supporters' part. clinton is the one who went to a private female school, an ivy league school, lived very well in illinois, but obama is the elitist. perhaps if more outlets would report clinton's background more frequently we can stop with this elitism arguement nonsense. i too would like to hear obama's expanded thoughts on issues that really matter, but because clinton is being selfish and poses to do some real long term damage to the democratic party, obama is essentially hamstrung into campaigning in primary mode than shifting to general election mode.

just so everyone knows, i did not decide to switch to obama until edwards dropped. i was for kucinich and then edwards after dennis dropped out. i also never got on the "hillary must go" bandwagon until it became a statistical impossibility for her to catch him in the remaining primaries. the process needs to <b>END</b> quickly, not be prolonged.

so what if people are disenfranchised because they played no major part in deciding their candidate. how many people were disenfranchised in the republican race this year when john mccain recieved enough delegates to become the presumptive nominee? how many people can<b>NOT</b> vote in the upcoming primaries because their state's primaries are closed (such as me in my state)? <b>how many people were disenfranchised because the people in michigan and florida knew their primaries did not count and did not vote who now because of clinton's ramroding to not represent the people, but to get those state's superdelegates, now have no voice in their primary?</b> clinton claiming disenfranchisement is also pandering, pandering to the poor, uneducated (part of her base) and to black people (obama's base) because of 2000 and 2004. and this also hurts party unity. it will be very hard to get all in the party to unite if it goes to denver, and anything that could be done to speed up the end of this race is a good thing.

i want to give the democrats my vote. people like clinton who are trying to turn the party into republican lite through their tactics and policies do your party more harm than good.

sirius/xm radio merger. still waiting...

i have invested in satellite radio right when the department of justice had announced the new company would not constitute a monopoly and approved the merger which had been announced a year ago. the next step in the process would be for the fcc to approve the merger, a process that should have taken no more than a week tops.

this approval was 4 weeks ago.

now, i'm perfectly happy to continue to use sirius should merger fall apart. i mean, even though most of the talk stations are horrible to put it nicely (thank god for sirius 110 indie talk, otherwise i might lose my mind) the university of louisville airs its games on sirius. and uofl trumps any reason proposed. but come on. what's holding up this merger? for any of you out there who own a satellite radio or are looking to get into satellite radio and are just waiting for the fcc to approve the merger, go to siriusmerger.com or xmmerger.com (for each respective company's flavored website on the merger, it's all the same content) and send a letter to your congresspeople and the fcc. i don't know much about your congresspeople, but i can be assured that probably one of mine may take my letter seriously, and i know they won't be republicans.

here's a copy of my letter (with some personal info scrubbed out for obvious reasons)

Dear [recipient name was inserted here],

I am a person that has just become involved in this satellite radio
industry because of the allowance of the DoJ for the companies to merge.
I purchased a radio the very next day because finally the companies were
going to jointly offer what I have been missing in my market. There are
no progressive stations in Louisville, KY. International news is only
offered for a few hours at night. Most of the music offered on the radio
here is music I do not listen to. Satellite radio has given me the
options that I wanted and I am willing to pay for it because it is another
option that I have not, nor will not be offered because the major radio
companies that broadcast in Louisville will not run that content or will
run it for a short time and then change it because the content does not
rate well.

There are many more people like me who have only just now invested in some
manner in satellite radio because of this merger that is pending and is
very close to becoming a reality. To deny this merger because of a feared
"monopoly" is ludicrous on its face and is easily debunked. When XM Radio
first launched there was a time period where it was the only satellite
radio option. Did the FCC or the Department of Justice deny XM from
operating because Sirius had not launched its satelites yet? Also, the
reason that satellite radio exists is because the consumer, or radio
listener, was given the choice of station A or station B with no recourse
to go to station C because there was no station in the market offering
that content. Satellite radio gives the consumer a choice of offerings in
the local market or offerings from a satellite provider. Just because
there were two satellite radio companies in existance does not mean that
they were in direct competition with each other. They are also in direct
competition with the local radio markets. Both companies were losing
money competing with each other and with the local radio markets. If this
merger is not approved and one company files for bankruptcy, would the FCC
allow this to happen because there will only be one company offering a
satellite option instead of two? It is for this reason why the logic of a
merger being denied seems flawed. If the satellite companies are
competing against themselves and one fails, isn't this a merger almost by
default because there is now one company where there were two? And what
would happen to those who would have invested into their respective
companies by way of equipment and subscriptions? At least with this
merger proposal there is a guarantee that all equipment will continue to
function as it is now.

A combination of companies will allow satellite radio to better compete
with the local markets. A stronger satellite radio company will force the
local radio markets and the so-called terrestrial radio companies to
improve their products, which would in turn force the combined company to
improve their offerings.

Satellite radio is a great technology that serves a specific market of
those radio listeners who are unsatisfied by what their local markets
offer and now finally have a device that delivers the content that they
want. To take it away by not allowing both companies to survive as one
does not serve the people who actively use it does not serve the common
good, but the interests of special lobbyist interests, such as the NAB who
have an active interest in seeing satellite radio fail because the NAB
serves the interests of the local radio markets and terrestrial radio
companies who wish to maintain the status quo.

Please allow this merger to be completed. We the radio listeners have no
other recourse to express to the radio industry in our local markets what
content we want. By denying the merger you deny the will of the people to
express their opinions.

Sincerely,

C. Artis

those of you interested in this venture, please write your congresspeople and the fcc to get some movement on this issue.

hey folks, demonoid is back. guess what? it could have been back sooner than you thought.

it seems like (to my eyes anyway) that the main roadblock in the site coming back was the site admin himself. deimos was his handle. if these "real world issues" were so encompassing that running a torrent website was simply out of the question, then why the hell didn't he turn over the site months ago? the moderation team at the subdemon(oid) forums were childish to put it mildly, and the fanbois were that much worse. you know how sad it is to see multiple threads titled "WHEN WILL DEMONOID BE
BACK??????????" or similar in tne subdemon forums over and over ad nauseam ad infinitum? i had posted in the forums there and i'll say it here- ALL of this could have been alleviated if deimos had just made one post in the announcements section at the subdemon forums, the content of said section was really an list of rules. these "real world issues" i guess must have been really important for deimos to never have said anything at all ever in that fourm. wonder how he found time to make posts in other threads of non-importance...

i have no idea what the timeline of events was, but the way the message on the front page reads, it seems like it was a short time ago. like in the past week. the few times i checked the subdemon forums, i did not see any announcement of a site admin change. when you add in the reports that the pirate bay offering up server space for demonoid, plus another tracker relocating to canada after demonoid went down and the turnaround time of it coming back up when it has gone down in the past, i think you in the end have a story of an absent admin who was negligent in their duties. deimos failed as an admin at his site's most crucial time in its existence. if life somehow became overwhelming so that he couldn't have run his site, turn it over to someone who could, a lesson learned months later. if he saw these issues coming up in the horizon, he should have turned the site over to someone who could run it in his absence. i can't speak for anyone else, but if i had a tight team of people i trusted and i had to go away for an undetermined time, i would have turned things over a long time ago.

i have used and will use the site, mainly because it is one of the best audiobook torrent sites on the internet (and someone please develop an audiobook dedicated site in the future please. there is a big audiobook community out there, i have a very large collection of such) so i'm glad the site is back. being grateful its back is one thing. essentially taking a dump on your users by having no announcements and then finding out it could have been back months ago is another. it should be a lesson
to other bittorrent users on the intarwebs- don't rely so heavily on one site to get your pirated goods.

edit: about that timeline? i may have been a bit off. instead of being something that happened in a week, it looks like it may have happened in a day. demonoid kool-aid drinkers, hear this and know this- YOU WERE PLAYED. the site could have easily come back quickly, but because of the site admin whom you loved, fawned over and protected so diligently decided to take a crap on you and pretty much walk out on you all without turning things over, the interwebs is treating deimos with kid gloves. screw that. be remorseful about his personal life, but his life as an admin deserves and needs intense scrutiny and criticism.

so randi rhodes got suspended

randi rhodes spoke at an air america affiliate function over the weekend and let loose some pretty incindiary stuff about geraldine ferraro and hillary clinton. she was on her show monday, off it on tuesday and today comes a press release from the grand poobahs of air america that she has been suspended. my guess it will be a week or two. and then this too shall pass.

only reason i'm writing about this is because the reactions from the randifans, especially on her website's forum ranges from rediculous to hilarious. their general bane of contention is this: air america has NO RIGHT to suspend randi because she was speaking:
a)the truth
b)her opinion
c)not on company time
d)not as a representative of aar

wrong on all four counts. all four points can be debunked with a few facts:
1)reguardless of whether or not she was representing air america radio at the time, the fact is that she is employed by aar and can be seen as representing aar if she is or is not simply because they employ her.
2)she was speaking at an air america affiliate's function. even if it was on her own time, those who may not have known could still think that she represented the views of air america.
3)one can express their views without using the language that she did. even if she felt that way, its not good for a radio personality to use that language when talking about public figures.

although what she said i believe to be true, she shouldn't have said that in the way she did.
